Celestial Notebook Overview November 2008

‘Trust in God but tether your camel. ’ Sufi Proverb

During October and November the Sun (Sun symbol), Our Fountainhead of Power is in Libra (Libra symbol) and in Scorpio (Scorpio symbol). An astrological sign represents an archetypal theme: The Scales represent balance and The Scorpion exposes reality for what it is. Venus (Venus symbol) is associated with Libra and Mars (Mars symbol) with Scorpio – the female and the male, vision and structure, content and form.

Finding a truthful balance congruent with reality and shattering any illusions is underlying the change we’re going through. No wonder the biggest stock market crashes have all occurred in October: Black Thursday on 24 October 1929, Black Monday on 19 October 1987 and Black Friday on 10 October 2008. In all these charts the personal planets – Venus and Mars in particular - have been in either Libra or Scorpio.

Perhaps the rollercoaster times we are experiencing in the financial world is a reflection of the adjustments our inner male and female are undergoing as we gingerly enter the Age of Aquarius. As we realign ourselves inwardly our partnerships and intimate relationships will also be transforming. Scorpio probes the depths, breaks apart, identifies the dross and eliminates whatever is wasteful and insincere. We are collectively at a stage where new structures are swinging into place and we need to take heart and see some of our inner and outer chaos and destruction in this light.

As we enter a new age – something we do every 2000 years – we are being compelled to make a leap of understanding, a shift in consciousness. We tend to be identified with how we think things ought to be; a shift in perspective does not mean taking on yet more thoughts, but rather emptying our mind to allow an empty space so that the new has room to enter.

As it is Saturn (Saturn symbol), The Preserver, in Virgo, opposes Uranus (Uranus symbol), The Awakener, and the ruler of Aquarius; their energies are naturally at odds and now they are in opposition too. This happens every 40 years.

The dates that the opposition becomes exact are not necessarily D-days but the week before and after are often times when matters come to a head. It so happens that the first date is 4 November – the day of the presidential election in USA – and McCain and Obama are textbook examples of Saturn and Uranus – the old and the new. (The opposition becomes exact at 18° 57’ Virgo-Pisces.)

An opposition is the half-way mark in the cycle of two planets; the current Saturn/Uranus cycle began in 1988 when they were conjunct at 27° 49’ Sagittarius (close to where Pluto, Lord of the Underworld, is at present). Themes from this time will be recurring, asking for review and even closure: light is shed on our process since then. The period between July 1999 and May 2000 may also be highlighted as these two planets were then in a tense square. From now till March 2009 Saturn and Uranus will engage intensely; May and June 2009 bring another period of re-negotiation. From September 2009 Pluto (Pluto symbol) joins in and our awareness will be transformed into purposeful action.

From now till March it would be better to look rather than leap. This aspect has a long way to go and cultivating as much awareness as possible is important. Over-effort will result in see-sawing energies (as we have experienced in the current stock market crisis).

On 2 November Neptune (Neptune symbol) at 21° Aquarius (Aquarius symbol) turns around to go direct, lifting the fog on issues that have been unclear and unresolved since his retrograde phase began (27 May 2008). Neptune in Aquarius represents understanding and living the truth that we are all part of a larger whole, the family of humankind.

The Aquarian manifesto is very much about an awareness of the larger concerns of humanity: how may we better decant the waters of our compassion, concern and care – not only for others but for ourselves? To cultivate a bit more detachment without losing our heartfelt warmth means that we are able to strive for and choose what may be the best course of action for the greater whole.

The North Node (North Node symbol), also in Aquarius, encourages innovation and collaboration. (The transiting North Node represents the collective spiritual frontier where we are headed as a species.)

The Taurus (Taurus symbol) Full Moon on 13 November is a SuperMoon – a term coined by Richard Nolle for when the Moon is within 90% of its closest approach to the earth and in a New Moon or a Full Moon phase. SuperMoons intensify gravitational pulls on land and water, generating more extreme tides, weather and tectonic activity. Our bodies and our psyches are more strongly affected as well, undergoing wider swings of emotions and more profound insights – remember to breathe!

The Sagittarius New Moon at 16:56 on 27 November will take no prisoners: less than an hour before the New Moon, Uranus, The God of Chaos, ends its five-month long retrograde phase. Where 18° Pisces is in your chart is where you will be making changes – or they will be made for you! As the higher octave of Mercury, Uranus liberates us from limited thinking; Uranus in Pisces reminds us that there are other ways of knowing and that intuition is even more powerful than intellect.

On the same day (in the early hours of the morning) Pluto, Mythic God of Death and Rebirth, re-enters Capricorn where it remains till 2023. The Sun enters Capricorn at the Winter Solstice (in the Northern Hemisphere), the darkest time of the year but also the time when the light begins to increase. ‘In the sign of Capricorn, we learn not to fear experiences of darkness and contraction, in the reassurance that beginnings of increase are found there too.’ Melanie Reinhart

From 27 November to 31 December 2008 all the planets are moving forward: breakthrough, breakdown or break up time.

We’re reaching another level of consciousness where time is art – not money! Our attitude towards time is part of the change we are embracing as we whirl into the new aeon, The Age of Aquarius. Off course we need clock time to organise the horizontal dimension of our life – the surface layer of our reality. What we are now adding is the vertical dimension of depth, accessible to us only through the portal of acceptance – of allowing the present moment to be.

Whenever a habitual no turns into a yes – when we allow the moment to be as it is, we dissolve time.

‘Love does not care for time or order.’ Vatsyayana, The Kama Sutra

This month it is all systems go as by 27 November all the planets are moving forward.
