Celestial Notebook Overview May 2010

‘Come gather 'round people
Wherever you roam
And admit that the waters
Around you have grown
And accept it that soon
You'll be drenched to the bone.
If your time to you
Is worth savin'
Then you better start swimmin'
Or you'll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin'.'
Bob Dylan

It may be spring and you may be rarin’ to go, but we’re at the tail end of understanding how we hold on to a familiar way of being and working towards letting the last vestiges of our old patterns go.

The Sun (Sun symbol), the core indicator of where your main focus will be, is in Taurus (Taurus symbol) until 21 May. Taurus is a feminine, passive sign with a deep connection to the natural world – yet able to steam, stamp and charge to protect what it holds sacred. The Bull part of you is so far beyond fear that even fearlessness becomes meaningless: a deep inner peace, serenity is the endpoint of this fixed, earthy sign.

When any planet is retrograde, seemingly reversing against the background of the stars, you are being compelled to retrace your steps and renegotiate the way you exchange energy with your environment: your verbal and non-verbal communication (Mercury), the development of your uniqueness (Uranus) and how you become aware (Neptune) and discipline yourself to achieve this (Saturn).

The slower a planet moves, the more its volume is turned up. This means that when planets are stationary the effect they have on the magnetic field around your body is intensified – making this month a crunch month in terms of implementing the changes you know are important for you in terms of the new Aquarian paradigm.

Mercury (Mercury symbol), indicating how your mind works, turned retrograde on 18 April at 12° 37’ Taurus. Until 11 May when Mercury stations direct you will internally (and probably silently) be devising ways in which you could earn a reasonable living, doing what you enjoy doing. Or if you have to stay in a boring lucrative job, how to create time to have more holiday or even study after hours to work towards finding more purpose in your life – making a living rather than making a killing.

On 26 April Saturn (Saturn symbol) and Uranus (Uranus symbol) formed the fourth (of their five) oppositions – this time at 29° Virgo-Pisces (Virgo symbol-Pisces symbol) – echoing the theme of maintaining traditional methods and introducing innovative techniques when facing life’s alternatives. You will be experiencing an increased desire to break barriers with innovation, insight and clear, well-timed communication. In general you will insist (I hope, gently!) that you are allowed to express who you are and what you believe in even though others may have different ideas – and afford them the same........

Your measure how well you’re doing could be the flexibility of your joints – especially ankles (Aquarius/Uranus) and knees (Capricorn/Saturn). Should they stiffen up, ask yourself where you need to make an adjustment!

Economic cycles are often measured in relation to the Jupiter–Saturn (Jupiter symbol-Saturn symbol) cycle as they represent expansion and contraction. Ten years ago Jupiter conjoined Saturn at 22° 42’ Taurus within a degree of the New Moon on 14 May on 23° 9’ Taurus. The elegance of the universe never ceases to amaze me as on 22 May we are exactly halfway through that cycle when Jupiter opposes Saturn (27° 53’ Pisces-Virgo). Halfway through a cycle means that it is time for a gear change: circumstances will stretch our sensibilities so much that we will be able to appreciate that the problems facing us can only be resolved from a higher, more inclusive level of consciousness.......much food for thought!

The Virgo-Pisces polarity (potentised by the Saturn/Uranus and the Saturn/Jupiter oppositions) deserves attention: have a look at which houses in your chart are being affected and which planets (natally and progressed) are in the last five degrees of these signs. If you need help, do not hesitate to book a consultation – we could always charge it per half an hour!

Virgo represents the height of fragmentation and separateness – a mass of data in need of synthesis. Virgo’s strength is attention to detail as a pursuit and this is practical, pragmatic and..... wait for it.... a factor in healthy cynicism. Pisces represents the loss of fragmentation and separateness and has as its healthy function, your conscious merging back into oneness, wholeness and universal rhythm and truth...... creating the faithful adherent! (Martin Lass)

Your journey from spirit into matter (your perceived wounding) Pisces to Virgo, and the return to spirit (your perceived healing) Virgo to Pisces, is a manifestation of the Hero’s Journey – the monomyth that is your life.

You are born into a world of duality, of diversification and in this sense you are an unawakened, innocent angel; your descent into creation offers you the opportunity to awaken your consciousness through the mirror of duality and you become the awakened or experienced angel. It seems that there is no wounding and no healing – just the way it is supposed to be.

This month it is important to acknowledge both your Virgo and Pisces archetypes: your cynic keeps you grounded and is your guard against blind faith and susceptibility. The faithful adherent will continually challenge your inner cynic – challenging the illusions of the dualistic, material world.

Know that you are spirit and matter, One and Many – one cannot exist without the other. Nothing has changed, you are merely awakening to your true nature which is both One and Many simultaneously.

‘As the present now
Will later be past
The order is
Rapidly fadin'
And the first one now
Will later be last
For the times they are a-changin'.’
Bob Dylan
