‘Losing an illusion makes you wiser than finding a truth.’ Ludwig Börne
For most of June, the Sun (
), representing our very essence is in Gemini (
): the Twins, Castor and Pollux, one mortal, one divine. When Castor is slain in a quarrel with another set of twins, Pollux is beside himself with grief and brokers a deal with Zeus after which the latter allows them to take turns being in the upper and the lower worlds. They were permitted to meet once a day to share what they had learnt. The spiritual journey and goal of Gemini is to reconcile the polarities of Heaven and Earth, light and dark, reason and intuition.
From 10-26 June Mercury, the planet associated with Gemini, is in Gemini. Mercury is the Messenger of the Gods and travels freely between Heaven, Earth and Hades, the Underworld, representing the super-conscious, the conscious and the subconscious.
This month we need to be receptive to finding creative ways of living at different levels at the same time. Be aware that your thoughts create your reality – remain open to alternative ideas and keep in mind that truth is stranger than fiction.
Some planets move faster than others: Saturn (
) takes approximately 28 years to travel through all twelve signs whereas Jupiter (
) traverses a sign per year and therefore takes 12 years to pass through the entire zodiac.
Your personal chart is affected all the time by the slower moving planets and events usually come to pass as a faster moving planet, such as Mercury, triggers a long-term transit.
When important configurations take shape among the outer planets (Uranus (
), Neptune (
) and Pluto (
)) and the bridge planets (Saturn (
) and Jupiter (
)) the collective is affected: millions of people go through huge circumstantial and psychological changes.
At the moment Saturn, representing the reality of discipline and structure, Uranus, a planet that brings unexpected, irrevocable change and Pluto, the merciless transformer, are in a celestial t-square: Saturn and Uranus are opposite each other and both square Pluto. This configuration is effective from August 2009 to August 2011 and at the moment Jupiter is also involved as The King of Expansion joins Uranus in Aries (
) on 6 June.
This is a particularly dynamic configuration as the four different archetypes these planets represent are vying for attention in the first degrees of the cardinal signs – signs that take initiative and are action oriented.

Neptune rules oil and I don’t think the oil spill in the Gulf will be resolved soon. It will, I hope, change the way the world and its governments view the price we have to pay for this commodity.
On 6 June, Jupiter, planet of faith and meaning, marches into Aries, ready for a new adventure and on 8 June meets up with Uranus. Jupiter and Uranus joining forces signify an opportune time to channel energy into matters that require immediate reform. Your individuation process (claiming what is deeply unique about you) and your spiritual quest will speed up, propelling you towards implementing your own meaning rather than what is fed to you from family or society.
Sudden expansion is the key phrase; the last time these planets were conjunct in a cardinal sign was in 1968-69. With the lunar landing on 20 July 1969, they were within 3 minutes of an exact conjunction at 0° Libra (
) – the epitome of ‘suddenly expanded horizons’. (The Moon was in the same degree - neat!)
Mars (
), planet of will and assertion is associated with Aries and as part of his cycle (see Daily Guide) he is moving down into the Underworld and more inclined to anger and rash action. Mars enters Virgo on 7 June and your frustration will be directed at those who over-analyse or incessantly nag about details. To understand that emotional common sense is different from mental logic will help. At a personal level many matters will come to a head during the first ten days of June.
The Summer Solstice is on 21 June and the chart for this day sets the tone for the next six months. The Sun (
) at 0° Cancer triggers the squares as explained above and it seems more outworn structures will crumble and decay. The faith and optimism of the Jupiter/Uranus meeting will however buoy us beyond past restrictions and allow us to see beyond existing limits.
Communication is an important part of the story this month: if you’re feeling confused and riddled with ambivalences, you can at least honestly share your experiences. Such verbalisation may help you to develop the art of expressing sensitivity and compassion while communicating your limitations and boundaries.
Above all: trust your process.
